OR Tambo to Pretoria is a longer run than most visitors expect — around 60 km via the R21, and one of the routes where getting it wrong is genuinely expensive in time.
The Gautrain
You cannot travel directly. The airport line runs to Sandton, where you change for the Pretoria line, and Hatfield station is the far end. Total journey time is usually just over an hour once the change is accounted for, and you are moving your own luggage through two stations.
It works well if you are going near Hatfield or Pretoria station and travelling light. It works badly if your destination is anywhere else in Pretoria, because you still need onward transport at the end.
E-hailing
Available, but this is a long trip and the fare reflects it. You are also exposed to surge pricing on a route where a single accident on the R21 can add forty minutes. Drivers sometimes decline long airport runs at busy times, which is a problem you discover only once you have landed.
A private transfer
